Children’s Minister

Primary Responsibilities 

Primary responsibilities will include tasks under the following categories: Spiritual Formation & Teaching, Volunteer Leadership & Development, Program Oversight, Team Collaboration, Safety & Policy Management. 

  1. Oversee all regularly occurring ministry activities for children (birth–6th Grade), including Sunday Morning and Midweek. 

  2. Oversee the implementation and vision for age-appropriate curriculum for each age level.

  3. Lead and oversee the leadership team of the Children’s Ministry Department (Pre-School Director & Children’s Administrator) 

  4. Create programming and engaging activities for each age group that facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth.

  5. Recruit, train, and schedule teams of children’s ministry volunteers.

  6. Plan, schedule, and oversee special events such as Baby Dedications, Family Movie Nights, Camps, VBS, etc.

  7. Cultivate a healthy relationship and partnership with Lionheart Children’s Academy and creatively engage academy families. 

  8. Manage smooth check-in procedures on Sundays/Wednesdays and track weekly children’s ministry attendance.

  9. Partner with parents to support the spiritual formation of their children through encouragement, resources, and discipleship tools.

  10. Maintain regular communication with families and provide updates, event info, and parenting support.

  11. Work closely with other church staff and ministry leaders to align the children’s ministry with the broader mission and calendar of the church. 

  12. Attend staff meetings, ministry planning sessions, and church-wide events as needed.

  13. Ensure implementation of all child protection and safety protocols, including background checks, training, and emergency procedures.

  14. Regularly review and update policies to maintain a secure and professional ministry environment.

Leadership & Ministry Skills

  1. A proven leader who can cast vision, build and shepherd volunteer teams, and develop others for ministry.

  2. Able to equip and empower volunteers—encouraging spiritual growth, providing ongoing training, and fostering a healthy team culture.

  3. Skilled in creating a safe, engaging, and spiritually rich environment for children’s discipleship.

  4. Strong organizational ability to oversee multiple programs (e.g., Sunday mornings, midweek, VBS, outreach), manage calendars, and lead with clarity and consistency.

  5. A collaborative team player who can work in unity with pastoral staff and other ministry leaders to support the broader mission of the church.

Experience

  1. Minimum 4 years of leadership experience in children’s ministry or a similar educational or faith-based context.

  2. Experience managing or building volunteer teams and overseeing ministry programming.

  3. Familiarity with current curriculum, technology, and ministry platforms (e.g., Planning Center, ProPresenter, Google Suite, Lifeway, or equivalents).

  4. Training in ministry leadership, child development, or Christian education preferred (Bible college, seminary, or equivalent experience)

Your Team

This position reports to the Executive Pastor. 

This position will oversee over 70 volunteers and two children’s ministry staff members (a Preschool Coordinator and a Children’s Administrator). The Preschool coordinator is responsible for the weekly programming.

The Children’s Minister participates in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual team meetings as a part of the leadership team.
