In a special called business meeting on April 13, 2014, First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne voted unanimously to call Mike Lovely as Senior Pastor.  The final count was: 228 votes cast, 228 yes votes, 0 no votes!  We give God all the glory for how He has led us through this process and prepared us all for the man that He had chosen.  Please continue to be in prayer for Bro. Mike and his family as they go through this time of transition. And, continue to pray for FBCVA as God leads us forward into the next part of the journey.

Easter 2013

Through the faithful witness of one of my father’s business associates, our family started attending church when I was eight years old. At a Thanksgiving service in 1974, I accepted God’s gift of salvation. Our family became involved in the life of the church and continued to grow spiritually for the next several years. Our lives took a dramatic turn; however, when my mother died of colon cancer in 1979. God’s grace has allowed me to minister to many people through this experience in my life.

I began to sense God’s call on my life at the age of fourteen, but for almost four years I refused to surrender. During that time, God was working in my life and showing me that when He calls you to do something, He also equips you to do it. God took what was one of my greatest fears and turned it into one of my greatest passions – to creatively and clearly communicate God’s Word to others.

After High School graduation, I attended the International Institute and toured the U.S. with a singing and drama team. After much prayer and consideration, I made the long move to Ohio where I attended Ohio Bible College and Seminary. I sometimes wondered why God directed me to O.B.C., a small Bible college in Northeast Ohio. One of the reasons became crystal clear in 1989 when I had the privilege of marrying my best friend and the love of my life, Kristie.

Upon completion of my class work in 1991, my family and I moved back to Texas where I completed my pastoral internship at Grace Baptist Church in Flower Mound. I remained on staff for the next four years until God led us to my first pastorate in Clarksville, TX. The past seventeen years of pastoral ministry have been some of the most rewarding and challenging years of my life. God has been so good to reward our efforts with both spiritual and numerical growth in each of the churches we have served. My family and I are excited to see what God has in store for our future.
