He Is Risen
Series: Easter 2016
Resurrection Sunday gives us a chance to ask the question, "Does it really matter if Jesus is risen? And if so, why?"
In Acts 17:16-34, the apostle Paul found himself in Athens and his passion for the lost was stirred. The city of Athens was a cultural center in Paul's day. It was a place of commerce and trade. It was a place where intellectuals would gather and debate philosophy. Its many temples were filled with people looking for answers but finding none.  Paul's proclamation was simple. He didn't try to debate the philosophers, he went straight to the heart of the matter. And Paul's purpose was steadfast. He preached Jesus and the resurrection.
If Jesus is not alive, then nothing really matters.  If Jesus is alive, then nothing but that matters.

Good Friday – The Great Sacrifice
    Series: Easter 2016
The idea of singing about blood seems strange. Blood is life, and when we think about our own blood we understand how precious it is.  But the blood of Jesus is even more precious because it was His sacrifice on the cross for us that paid the price of our sin. He died in our place.  So as we consider what Jesus endured so that we could be forgiven, we come to the cross and remember His great sacrifice.
This message was delivered by Pastor Mike as part of the Good Friday Communion Service at FBCVA on March 25, 2016.

    Before I Die … Hosanna
    Series: Easter 2016
How would you finish this sentence: "Before I die ..." Many of us have a 'bucket list" of things we would like to accomplish before we die, but how many of those things really matter.  What could we do that would really make a difference?
In Matthew 21:1-11, Jesus is entering into Jerusalem for the last time before His death. Using this passage, Pastor Mike shows how this "triumphal entry" into Jerusalem foreshadows Jesus' return as the King of kings.  In the week that follows, we see the coronation of the King, the cross of the King, the communion of the King, the condescension of the King, and the conquest of the King.
