Discuss these questions together about John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Why is the word “Word” capitalized in this verse?

When it says that the “Word” became flesh, what does that mean?

The Greek verb used here literally means “to dwell in a tent” and likely alludes to the OT tabernacle as God’s dwelling among His people. Through His Son, God is taking up a post among His people just as He had done for ancient Israel.

Let’s talk about Jesus coming to earth to “dwell in a tent”! We spent two nights living in a tent. How would you like to live in a tent ALL THE TIME? What are tents used for, temporary or long-term shelter? What does that tell us about Jesus coming to earth? Where was his long-term residence? Paul also described our bodies and “tents”; what does that tell us about our long-term residence?

How does a person trade a tent for a mansion in heaven?
