Pastor Search Committee

Please be in prayer for these committee members as they seek God’s servant for our church family. Pray that they will follow God’s leading and obey His decision. We would like to thank each of them for serving on this committee.

The members of our Pastor Search Committee are:
John Williamson (Chairman),
Dennis Smith,
Mike Singleton,
Jack Washington,
Sue Dowdy,
Russell Moore
and Elizabeth Smith.
Alternates are: Randall Morgan and Troy Weber.

The process that led us to this committee:

On February 19, 2012, Brother Jimmy announced his retirement to the congregation. Brother Jimmy will serve until June of this year. At that time he will conclude 25 years of service to the congregation. We are thankful for dedication of Jimmy and Darlene to the Lord and his church for that amazing length of time. The length of service communicates much about a person, but it also gives a strong message of the congregation also. By following the Constitution and By-laws of FBCVA the Deacon body worked on the following timeline of events to select a Pastor Search Committee.

February 26, 2012: Brother Jimmy explained the process and by-laws to the congregation.
March 4: Brother Jimmy explained the qualifications of a pulpit committee member to the congregation.
March 11 (Spring Break): The congregation began nominations. There were no limits to the number of members one could nominate and the nominations were not signed.
March 25 (DNOW weekend): The nomination process ceased
April 1 (Palm Sunday): The election began. Each member had one ballot to cast their votes and were allowed to only vote for up to 7 committee members. The ballots were signed.
April 15: The election ceased.
April 22: The Pastor Search committee was announced.
